With a cooperation of 3 universities in Slovakia and Cisco we are preparing a roadshow for students and people who are interested in networking. The roadshow will be on December 7th at Technical University of Kosice, on February 21st at Univerzity of Zilina and the last but not least on February 28th at Slovak Technical University in Bratislava. I am a little (maybe even more than little) late with this post, but WE (VoIP Team of Computer Networks Laboratory) were about a month ago at a workshop called "ENUM Day 2006 in Slovakia". I think the topic of the workshop is clear - it was about ENUM. There were some presentations about ENUM, how to use and implement ENUM, etc. The top speakers were from Austria - Mr. R. Schischka and M. Haberler from enum.at who are international authorities in the ENUM field.

Cisco 79XX IP phones are capable of displaying special “web” pages written in XML format. These pages can be used to show the actual weather report, upcoming events from calendars, it can be a RSS reader, or it can even be a used to turn on the acclimatization in the room :) Just like normal web pages on web server, if you write a page with backend to power switches of acclimation then you may not have a big problem to really write that service.
XML pages or services on Cisco IP phones may contain forms with input boxes for text, numbers and other inputs which can be sent to a web server. At Computer Networks Laboratory we have created screensavers with some nice pictures for IP phones as XML services. The only thing you need to do is to specify the UDLE URL in the configuration of CCME and after some idle time period the screensaver picture is showed on the screen of your IP Phone.

It's still just in development, but you can already take a look at the datasheet for the new version of Cisco Call Manager 5.1. For myself, the best news is that there is a video call suport with various protocols and codecs.
It would be nice to have some "changelog" for comercial applications :)

When I was teaching IPT Update I always said that you can register to Call Manager Express only directly attached IP Phones with switch or in similar way. But this is just partially true. Well, it’s true for Cisco hardware IP phones. But it does not apply for Cisco SoftPhone applications. So you can freely register your softphone to remote Cisco Call Manager Express and by this way you have direct access to the extensions on your CME. This feature may be a big advantage if you are a remote worker or you are travelling much.

Have you ever heard about an application called Cisco Network Assistant?
I did not 'til the last week. I was browsing at the cisco.com site and suddenly I found a link to a free network management tool directly from Cisco :) It is a network management application for small networks based on Cisco devices. Unfortunately it requires web management enabled on network devices instead of using SNMP  But anyway, it looks like a good piece of software which at least worth to try.

Cisco is almost everywhere, it’s even at height of 90000 miles (144840km) with his VoIP solution. The attached pdf file shows the implementation of Cisco SoftPhone at the International Space Station.

The Cisco's website has been updated into its new look. The new website is more clear, the used colors are a little nicer and the site is more dynamical :) The Cisco's logo has been changed too! (Tho I liked more the old version :))

On 29.9.2006 in Bratislava, SR will be the workshop called "ENUM day 2006 in Slovakia" devoted to propagate ENUM in Slovakia.

Finally we have just released the first public beta version of the website for VoIP NetAcad Working Group. We have prepared this site which provide a communication platform for exchanging experiences about VoIP topics, informing about news in this area, helping with troubleshooting problems that may happen with VoIP implementations, giving you some resources for learning, etc.
